In what phase of mitosis do spindle fibers form?

Prophase is where you can begin to see the start of the spindle fibers and the beginings of chromatin coils- by the time metaphase happens everything is already formed and all of the DNA is lined up in the center hence the term meta-phase (the phase where things are inthe middle).
