My Builder is Holding Me Ransom?

This situation is unfortunately all too common because builders don't price jobs correctly or complications arise on site. Poor communication then leads to him proceeding to do extra work without you fully understanding or agreeing to what is happening. Have you actually sat down with your builder and gone through in detail what the extras are and compared them to the original quote? There is a good chance that the work he did was quite reasonable and necessary and you may still be getting good value for money. You should try to get an independent person to take an unbiased review of the details and offer their opinion on what is the best way forward. If your sure the builder is being unreasonable then get an independent Gas Safe gas fitter and an independent NICEIC registered electrician to check the installations and issue you with the necessary certification. Write to your builder and tell him you consider him to have left the agreed work unfinished and that he owes you the cost of bringing in additional tradespersons to complete the extension. You can further pursue this if you wish but if he writes back to say you owe him money p all correspondance to your solicitor
